Natural Landscape
Prince Rupert is located in the Pacific Maritime ecozone, the Western Cordillera landforms region which consists of Rocky Mountains, Appalachian Mountains and are located near the Pacific Ocean. The advantage of Prince Rupert's landscape is that the city itself is located in one of the largest temperate forest in the world, near the Pacific Ocean, and also near mountains. These landform features not only allows the city to have easy access to many raw materials such as timber and fishing, it also provides the environment for many recreational activities such as skiing and snowboarding. But as the land provides many positive affects, it also have many negative effects on the city. One of the major negative effects of the land is due to the surrounding mountains and bodies of water. Since Prince Rupert is located in between mountains and the Pacific Ocean, the landscape limits the city's space, which means it prevents the city's population growth and prevents activities that needs bigger space to be performed. Prince Rupert's special location also allows it to have special features like having a natural ice-free harbour. Since it is located beside the Pacific Ocean and had the closest harbour to Asia in the North America, it plays a huge role when it comes helping the city's growth.
The city is located in flat plains, while beside are rocky, Appalachian mountains and the Pacific Ocean
